Learn and Liberate

Learn and Liberate is a community of white anti-racists who want to build community and learn about issues of identity, privilege, racism, and the history of white supremacy. We will strengthen our practice as anti-racists through accountability and action to support BIPOC-led racial justice organizations.

Who Can Join

Learn and Liberate is open to anyone who can commit to: reading, doing their best to attend all 7 sessions (we know life happens!), and taking action on off weeks. L&L will provide ideas for various suggested actions to support BIPOC-led racial justice organizations. SURJ Sacramento wants people to show up for racial justice, not just study racism!

The goal of SURJ, and Learn and Liberate, is to work to mobilize a largely white demographic to show up for racial justice in meaningful ways. If you identify as a person of color, we enthusiastically welcome you to join Learn and Liberate! If you have the patience to put up with us as we do this invariably messy work, we are so grateful to have you and we want to center your contributions.

Outside of Sacramento? You are welcome to join, as most of our sessions are virtual. Please note we will have one to two in-person events and focus our action suggestions on the Sacramento region.

We hope you'll join us!
